Our morning literacy sessions focus on developing phonics, reading, writing and oracy skills.
We are following the Letters and Sounds Phonics Scheme which aims to develop children's speaking and listening skills. We begin by focusing on Phase 1 of the scheme.
Phase 1 of Letters and Sounds concentrates on developing children's speaking and listening skills and lays the foundations for the phonic work which starts in Phase 2. The emphasis during Phase 1 is to get children attuned to the sounds around them and ready to begin developing oral blending and segmenting skills.
Phase 1 is divided into seven aspects. Each aspect contains three strands: Tuning in to sounds, Listening and remembering sounds and Talking about sounds.
Children will enjoy taking part in a variety of games and activities to help develop these skills.
When a child is ready they will then move onto Phase 2 of the scheme which is where letters and their sounds are introduced.
Below are the Letters and Sounds Flashcards for Phase 2 and the order they are taught in. I have also included other resources that you may find helpful.
